Red Sox, Astros and Phillies Linked to White Sox Star No. 38 in Offseason Trade

The 2024 Chicago White Sox were the worst statistical team in Major League Baseball history. Still, they have the potential to be even worse in 2025 if their front office pulls off the two big trades expected of them. Between these two trades, Luis Robert Jr. and the trade of Garrett Crochet.

Crochet is almost guaranteed to be a hit this winter. Robert is more of a wild card considering he had a tremendous performance in 2023 but took a big step back in 2024.

Robert has seen his production decline overall in 2024, with his OPS dropping .200 from 2023. Still, he has more trade value than most, and it’s possible the White Sox will consider moving him this winter.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently agreed Lists Robert as a potential trade candidate this winter, I was even making a few contacts with teams in the league.

“The White Sox claim they want to build around him, but let’s be real: Luis Robert Jr. turns 28 next August, is already halfway through his prime years, and will be a free agent after the 2027 season,” Bowden wrote. “The trade value is high and the White Sox need to capitalize on that. If they can get seven solid to excellent prospects for both Crochet and Robert, their rebuilding timeline could be accelerated by two to three years. (Philadelphia) Phillies, (Boston) Red Sox and The (Houston) Astros make a lot of sense as trade partners for Chicago.”

The Phillies have had a long-standing connection to Robert, dating back to early June when the first trade rumors began floating around his name. Aspect The Phillies are looking for a serious roster shakeup. This move could be very significant.

The Red Sox are looking to add pitching and a right-handed bat, so they could be candidates for a blockbuster deal by acquiring both Robert and Crochet in one trade. Otherwise, they will continue to be linked as landing points for both stars.

Two other teams that Bowden didn’t mention are the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves. The Braves need a roster shakeup, especially as Ronald Acuña Jr. continues to recover from ACL surgery. If the Yankees miss Juan Soto, they will need to add an outfielder as well.
