‘Full House’s’ Dave Coulier reveals cancer diagnosis and positive outlook

The Metro Detroit native says he is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The “Full House” star and St. St. Clair Shores native Dave Coulier opened up to People magazine about his recent cancer diagnosis.

Coulier, 65, said he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in October after experiencing swollen lymph nodes during an upper respiratory tract infection.

“Three days later, my doctors called me again and said, ‘I wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and it’s called B-cell and it’s very aggressive,'” Coulier said. he tells the magazine. “I had a bit of a cold and cancer and it was pretty overwhelming. It was a really roller coaster ride.”

The actor, who is passionate about comedy and hockey, says he made an aggressive plan to fight cancer with his doctors and family and received good news when his bone marrow test came back negative. “At that point my chances of being cured dropped from a low level to the 90% range. And it was a great day.”

Coulier, who attended Motor City Comic Con in Novi over the weekend, said he immediately began chemotherapy and shaved his head as a “preemptive strike.”

“I have good days. I also have bad days,” Coulier tells People of her treatment. “Some days I get nausea and dizziness, other days the steroids kick in and I feel like I have tons of energy. I actually went skiing with some friends in Detroit yesterday. We were going and skiing and throwing pucks and being outside doing something I love and having all the fun I have in my life.” It was great trying to focus on the great things.”

Coulier also told the magazine that he will soon become a grandfather because his son Luc is expecting a baby with his wife Alex in March. “I need to teach him how to play hockey,” Coulier said. “There’s a lot to look forward to.”
