“I know how much you want to be People’s Sexiest Man Alive, so I came to see if you’re okay,” Krasinski said.

“Wow, that’s very thoughtful and that’s a very sexy quality in itself,” Colbert replied. “I’m starting to understand why they gave this to you.”

“Well, I guess that’s the problem and the biceps,” Krasinski responded.

To help Colbert get into shape for a People cover, Krasinski and “The Late Show” host teamed up for a parody of ’80s instructional videos titled “6 Simple Steps to Sex.” In addition to offering fake tips like consuming only water and raw eggs, the duo also suggested stealing some “sexy DNA” as Evans made a surprise appearance in the segment.

“I need your spit to make me sexy,” Colbert told Evans as he tried to clean his mouth. From there, Krasinski suggested creating a serum using the sample “in the genetics lab you built using the money you earned from reruns of ‘The Office’.” The parody ended with Colbert transforming into Evans after following all the steps.

“I feel like the sexiest man alive,” Colbert said after taking in Evans’ face.

“Of course in 2022, but this year is mine,” Krasinski replied.

Following the piece, Krasinski sat down with Colbert for a long late-night chat and showed off two covers he created for People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2024 issue. The actor and director joked that he learned the news in just “five minutes” before appearing on “The Late Show.”

“I’m sure there’s still some of that going on,” Krasinski said. “I thought it was a joke when they told me, and now I’m sure of it.”

In reality, Krasinski knew about the honor a little earlier, but was sworn to Marvel-level secrecy. However, she managed to slip by and tell one person: Matt Damon. Krasinski admitted that he accidentally spilled the news to the Cambridge star (and 2007’s Sexiest Man Alive) while arriving late to Damon’s birthday party.

“I think he kind of thought it was,” she said of Damon’s nonchalant reaction to Krasinski revealing he was late because of a People photo shoot. “We’ll see who’s in the ‘Ocean’s 15’.”

When Colbert asked how people in Massachusetts and his family would react to the news, Krasinski said, “Thanksgiving is going to be great,” before putting on his best Boston accent.

“Oh yeah, Sexiest of Men?” Krasinski said: “So you think you’re better than me? Is that it?”

“Zero thought,” he told the magazine. “Maybe I’m being bullied. ‘Is this the day I’ll be asked to be the Sexiest Man Alive?’ I don’t wake up thinking. But it was still the day you did it.”

In the article, his wife and fellow movie star Emily Blunt joked that she would wallpaper their home with Krasinski’s Sexiest Man Alive cover.

“My kids will love it, it won’t be weird at all,” she told People.

Along with Krasinski, Dempsey, Evans and Damon, New England star Ben Affleck was also named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2002.
