ITV’s Funhouse Star now works for Wetherspoons after quitting TV | TV and Radio | Showbiz and TV

The star of hit 1990s ITV game show Fun House now works for Wetherspoons after quitting fame.

Melanie Grant, now 51, was one half of the twin blonde cheerleaders who hosted Pat Sharp on the show.

The quirky quiz show was more famous for its chaotic go-kart races and frenzies than its trivia questions. But fans who were kids then can now enjoy a nostalgic treat as adults by joining the UK’s largest Wetherspoons.

Melanie said her boss at the Royal Victoria Pavilion bar in Ramsgate, Kent, was completely stunned when he noticed her ID on her CV.

He said: “I love working in the bar, it’s perfect for me as I grew up here, I’m a real people person and always love chatting to the customers here.

“A lot of the customers know me and recognize me from the show, and we have so many laughs and memories from that.”

Before transforming into Wetherspoons flagship (the country’s largest, which opened its doors in 2017), the venue had a vibrant history as a nightclub, known to many as Peggy Sue’s and then Nero’s.

Local girl Melanie continued: “I used to come here back in the day, so I have a great connection with the building.”

Pub boss Chris Whitbourn said: “It’s fantastic to have Mel here. I used to watch Fun House as a kid and then found myself interviewing her for a job here. She’s a great member of staff and an asset to the bar.”

Melanie and her twin sister Martina rose to stardom on the fondly remembered ITV show when they were 16.

Iconic show where young contestants take on challenges in the infamous soft arcade while enthusiastic hosting from former contestants BBC Radio 1 DJ Pat Sharp – with his distinctive mullet – wowed young audiences from 1989 to 1999.
