Amtrak service suspended between New Haven and NYC due to transformer explosion and brush fire

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (WFSB) – Amtrak trains will not run between Union Station and New York City until at least 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to officials.

The service was first suspended around 3:05pm on Tuesday After a transformer explosion and fire on Amtrak tracks in the Bronx.

Due to the fire, Amtrak had to shut off power in the area.

Around 16.15, Service between New Haven and New York City suspended for the rest of the day.

While firefighters were investigating the cause of the explosion, luckily no injuries occurred.

Due to the incident, Travelers may experience delays in Amtrak service between Boston, New Haven and New York-Washington on Wednesday.

Metro-North Railroad services will award Amtrak tickets for customers traveling between New York and New Haven.

Passengers who want to use Metro-North as an alternative means of transportation must take the train from New York Grand Central Station.

Please note that transportation is not available between Penn Station and Grand Central.

Amtrak will waive additional fees for customers who wish to change their reservations during the modified schedule by calling our reservations center at 1-800-USA-RAIL.
