Let’s be honest…Brad Pitt and shirtless scenes are a match made in Hollywood heaven. From Fight Club to Troy, this man has turned taking his shirt off into an art form. But here’s the kicker: One of his most legendary shirtless moments was almost ruined by Quentin Tarantino.

We’re talking about that unforgettable scene Once Upon a Time in HollywoodThe one where Brad’s Cliff Booth climbs onto Rick Dalton’s roof and takes off his Champion T-shirt like it’s another hot day in Los Angeles. The problem is that Tarantino had ideas about how this moment should go, and he almost ruined the whole thing.

On the latest episode of Amy Schumer’s 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast, Tarantino talked about how he tried to micromanage this shirtless fascination. “I’m thinking, ‘So, maybe you unbutton your Hawaiian shirt, take that off, and then take off your Champion T-shirt,'” Tarantino said. Seriously dude? Brad wasn’t having it.

Typically pretty low-key and shy about these things, Pitt responded with the confidence we all wish we had: “Really? You want me to go through all this button bullshit? I’ll take it off in a second.” Brad took control and Tarantino quickly realized he was dealing with a master.

“Okay, this guy seems to know exactly what time it is. Shut up and let the master do his job!” Tarantino admitted. And he was right; Pitt knew how to pull off this scene like no one else. Effortless, calm and pure Brad Pitt.

Fast forward and that shirtless moment became one of the most talked about parts of the movie. It even earned Brad the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. But it wasn’t just about taking off the shirt; It was about having that macho swagger that Cliff Booth and Pitt nailed every time.

Tarantino couldn’t help but praise Pitt for his overall villainy in the film; especially when he’s wearing leather gloves or chewing on strings like a pro. “He just knows what time it is,” Tarantino said. And yes it is.

Next time you watch that scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, remember this: it could have been a lot less iconic. Tarantino He almost got in the way of Brad Pitt’s shirtless charm, but in the end, Pitt showed exactly why he’s the king of cool – no buttons, no fuss – just pure, effortless Brad Pitt cool.
