A court here today sentenced former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam to five days’ imprisonment in a case filed with the Uttara East Police Station in connection with the murder of one Bokul Miah.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury approved the order after the police produced her in court and pleaded for 10 days remand in the case.

Police arrested the former DNCC mayor from Mohakhali DOHS area of ​​the capital on October 16. The next day, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MD Ali Haider sent Atiqul Islam to jail, citing his arrest in three separate murder cases.

According to case documents, Bokul Miah joined the student anti-discrimination movement in the Eastern Uttara district on July 18. He was shot in the head the next day and succumbed to his injuries. Later, his widow, Monika Akter, filed the case at the Uttara East Police Station.
