A missing man was found dead at a Planet Fitness tanning salon in Indianapolis on Monday, three days after breaking into one of the gym’s locations, authorities and relatives said.

According to reports, the body of 39-year-old Derek Sink was found around 9 a.m., about four hours after the fitness center opened its doors for business.

Sink’s family, who had not heard from him since Friday, reported him missing the previous day. The Indianapolis Star reported, citing police records.

A woman visiting the gym on Monday morning he told WTHR Before the body was found in the solarium, a foul odor was emanating from the building.

“I guess the tanning salon has a door, but still, why aren’t we concerned about the tanning salon potentially being closed for three days?” Elizabeth Len said.

The gym closes at 21:00 on Fridays and is open from 7 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. according to the website.

Sink’s family told the local station that their loved one was dealing with drug problems and that a needle was found in the Planet Fitness room.

Relatives remembered him as a loving person.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our members and the franchisee is working with local authorities in their investigation,” a Planet Fitness representative told the outlet.

“At Planet Fitness, we have strong operational brand protocols as the safety and well-being of our members is our top priority. “We work closely with our local franchisee to ensure they maintain these brand protocols.”

The cause and manner of death have not been determined so far, but foul play is not suspected.
