LOS ANGELES — A serious mismatch created a predictable outcome and marked a turning point for USC women’s basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb.

USC, ranked third with JuJu Watkins with 21 points, 9 assists and 6 steals, gave Gottlieb his 300th career victory by beating Cal State Northridge 124-39 at the Galen Center on Tuesday night.

Six players scored in double figures for the Trojans (3-0); Among them, Kiki Iriafen scored 15 points and Kayleigh Heckel came off the bench to score 14 points. All 13 Trojans playing scored, while the team set a single-game program record for total points.

Gottlieb’s players waved the “300” sign and jumped up and down around it after the game.

USC actually won the game from the opening tip. The Trojans outscored the Matadors 30-6 in the first quarter and scored just seven points in the second quarter to lead 60-13 at halftime.

The Matadors committed 43 turnovers, giving the Trojans 63 points. Erica Adams had 10 turnovers and Nnenna Orji had 7 turnovers.

After securing a two-point win against No. 20 in Paris to open the season. At Mississippi, the Trojans defeated Cal Poly (SLO) by 55 points last week, defeating their second straight opponent. Their path becomes much more difficult with the visit of No. 6 Notre Dame this month.
