Minico’s Preston Sonner-Cranney is named the final Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The quarterfinals of the Idaho high school football playoffs are in the books with six area teams advancing to the semifinals.

There were many great performances in the quarterfinals, but the final Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week goes to a Minico running back.

That distinction currently belongs to Minicos Preston Sonner Cranney, who has received the award 3 times.

The senior running back continued to lead the Spartans into battle, scoring four rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning score. The Spartans defeated the Bishop Kelly Knights 41-35 in triple overtime.

To make matters even sweeter for Minico, this was a rematch from earlier in the season when the Spartans lost by 12 points.

Sonner-Cranney has 32 goals, including both the regular season and the playoffs, as he and the Spartans look to keep the momentum going in the semifinals.

Minico head coach Sherman Blaser spoke highly of his senior running back.

“He’s been a workhorse for us all season long. He’s a great kid and leader for our team. I believe he’s the best player in the state,” Blaser told KMVT. “I’m proud of the team for the determination and courage they showed against BK (Bishop Kelly). They’re a special group.”

No. 5 Minico will face No. 1 Skyline in the semifinals on Saturday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.
