Ole Miss DE Jared Ivey Names Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week

Ole Miss Rebels Defense was crowded on Saturday Dominating win over Georgia Bulldogsand Jared Ivey, the latest member of the front seven to earn national honors.

The Ole Miss defensive end was named: Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week It’s an honor bestowed on Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America. Ivey’s seven tackles (five solo) and two sacks helped him stand out among the Rebels’ front, which has drawn national attention in recent weeks for their ability to get into opponents’ backfields.

Ivey’s two sacks were part of a five-sack night for the Ole Miss defense, which made life difficult for Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. Other than a short field goal by the Bulldogs in the first quarter following an interception by Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart, Georgia’s only points came from a field goal in the third quarter, making the score 28-10. Ole Miss won.

Other Ole Miss players also earned national recognition Tuesday. Linebacker Pooh Paul and linebacker Walter Nolen were named semifinalists for the Bednarik Award, and quarterback Jaxson Dart was named semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award.
