Stranger saved woman from crashed car

PINE PRAIRIE, La. (KLFY)– A stranger saved a woman from drowning in a sinking car, then left.

On her way to work Sunday morning, Shayna Cormier’s vehicle crashed into St. Louis. Landry began aquaplaning off Highway 16 into high flood waters.

Cormier said water quickly filled his car.

“I was crying, I was trying to open my door, but I couldn’t,” Cormier said. “I wasn’t thinking and was just panicking.”

Since there were no street lights around, he was trapped in his flooded car and could not escape.

Cormier said he found his phone underwater and emergency responders were already on the phone. He realized that he had an accident and called “911”.

“It was like my waistline at the time and I saw someone, a truck, go by,” Cormier said. “He immediately pulled over and got out.”

Cormier said the stranger saved his life by opening his car door and pulling him out of the flooded car.

“He was telling me I was fine,” Cormier said. “He told me to stop panicking.”

When police arrived, he left without telling Cormier his name.

“I want to say thank you very much and I really appreciate it,” Cormier said. “You are an angel in disguise for me and I really appreciate you.”
