Fight over Christmas decorations ended with woman’s arrest

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro woman is facing charges after police say she forced her way into her neighbor’s home and beat them after an argument over an outdoor Christmas display.

Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to charge Shaylin Elizabeth Moore, 22, with home burglary, a Class B felony, and third-degree battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the affidavit, on Monday, Nov. 11, officers responded to an address on Belt Street regarding an assault.

The victim claimed Moore broke into her apartment and attacked her.

“The victim stated that the incident began when Moore placed an inflated Christmas decoration outside and asked the victim to stop his dog from tearing it down,” court documents stated.

Police said the two got into a “verbal argument” before returning to the victim’s apartment.

“The victim stated that she was sitting on the couch when Moore walked in, jumped on her and began punching her,” the affidavit stated. “The victim’s dog attempted to defend the victim and jumped towards Moore, scratching his face.”

While speaking with the victim, Moore “spontaneously admitted” to entering the apartment and starting the fight, investigators said.

“Officers kept telling Moore they would talk to him shortly, but Moore kept talking and admitted he did it,” Detective Madison Dobbs said.

Police arrested Moore and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center; where he awaits a Dec. 17 appearance in circuit court on $10,000 cash/surety.
