Ky., who is accused of dismembering and killing his mother’s body. The woman defended herself.

ROBERTSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – The woman accused of killing and dismembering her mother appeared in court for a formal hearing Tuesday.

A not guilty plea was entered on Torilena Fields’ behalf to the charges against her in October.

These charges include murder and corpse abuse.

“We’re doing a lot of research and we’re really willing to take all the information we can to represent him to the best of our ability and really tell his story. That’s the biggest thing,” said Laura Fitzer of the Cynthiana Public Defender’s Office.

Fitzer shares how things will progress.

“What we’re doing at this point is putting our boots on the ground and getting some evidence from the state that they want to use to prove a murder against Torilena,” he said.

It was said at the hearing that a large amount of evidence would be presented for testing and that Torilena’s medical records from the time he lived in California before moving to Robertson County may also be presented.

Todd Brock, Trudy Fields’ brother, said the family is waiting for this to be over so they can get to the bottom of what happened.

Brock added that seeing the fields on that screen was jarring.

“It didn’t look any different to me. He did not appear confused or very alert and focused on the judge. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with him,” Todd said.

Torilena’s cousin, Olivia Brock, also shared her thoughts on seeing Fields.

“Maybe it’s just my thoughts or something like that, but I feel like he’s aware of what he’s doing or whatever, I don’t know,” Olivia said.

The judge did not set bail for Torilena Fields.

Fields is scheduled to appear in court again in Robertson County on March 10 at 9 a.m.
