Mustang crashes into house roof in Chino; Driver and 3 passengers injured

CHINA, Calif. (KABC) — A black Mustang crashed into the roof of a home in Chino early Tuesday morning while the homeowners were asleep in bed.

The Mustang was traveling southbound in the 12600 block of San Antonio Boulevard when it struck a curb and the concrete side of a drainage ditch, according to the Chino Police Department. The car rolled off the street behind the house, flew over a canal and landed on the back side of the roof.

The impact was so powerful that it collapsed a second-floor wall and left a large hole behind.

The homeowners were shaken but no one was injured.

“It was as if a plane had passed over our house,” Andrea Kobzef said. “It woke us up and there was a car parked on the second floor of our house and it was just devastating.”

Kobzef stated that he saw four people get out of the car and that they were young children, probably in their 20s. He added that before the accident, a car was performing a donut demonstration in the street behind the house.

“Kids love making donuts there… and we heard that a lot tonight,” Kobzef said. “… I didn’t think the car would fly through our house.”

Neighbor Francisco Anaya said he and his wife heard the same thing.

“We were lying in bed but we heard a car making donuts in the cul-de-sac out back,” he said. “It stopped and…maybe about five minutes went by. My wife said she heard a start and then ‘Boom!’ “You heard a huge sound like, I was scared, I thought it was an earthquake.”

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jacob Torrez of Chino, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police said there were three other passengers in the vehicle, a 19-year-old and two minors, who were also transported to the hospital for injuries.

Investigators said alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
