Iowa man files for new trial; Sentenced to 50 years in prison for wife’s death – ABC 6 News

(ABC 6 News) – An Iowa man was sentenced to 50 years in prison in Hancock County Court on Tuesday for the death of his wife.

Roger Laverne Crews was found guilty of 2nd degree murder on Monday, October 14th.

The crews were ordered to serve at least 35 years in prison before applying for parole and to pay $150,000 in restitution to the State of Iowa.

Crews filed a motion for a new trial before sentencing.

Between Oct. 9 and 14, a Hancock County jury watched explicit video interviews in which the defendant admitted to shooting 56-year-old Karen Abby Crews at her home in Woden.

Karen Crews was later found dead, strangled, zip-tied and beaten.

The crew’s motion claimed: Some evidence used at trial He stated that his constitutional rights were violated and that the jury convicted him without concrete evidence of guilt.

The prosecution opposed a new trial.

The state’s response said, “The defendant admitted that he quarreled with his wife, attacked her and killed her.” “Physical evidence supported this admission by showing that the Defendant was at the residence. The defendant also shared details that only the perpetrator of the murder would know.
