Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated Tuesday that he has no interest in blocking the sun during home games at AT&T Stadium.

During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Jon Machota (From The Athletic), Jones downplayed the idea that the sun had a negative impact on his team, arguing that it actually gave the Cowboys an advantage:

“Of all the things we need to improve, that’s low on the list of improvements. The stadium is built to make it feel like you’re outside. It’s the largest air-conditioned arena in the world. My biggest thought when we built it was … to make it look like it was outside.”

“Every field has certain things that can create an advantage in certain ways and at certain times. This really falls into the category of home advantage. It should be an advantage for the home team. … Knowing where it is has been an advantage for us. Sunshine, I don’t want to change that.”

Sun became a major topic of discussion following Dallas’ 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, as wide receiver CeeDee Lamb missed the kickoff due to the sun getting into his eyes.

Lamb was wide open in the end zone, but quarterback Cooper never reacted to Rush’s throw, making it clear he couldn’t see the ball:

Speaking to reporters after the game, Lamb admitted that he had lost the ball in the sun, and when asked if the windows in the stadium would be covered with curtains, he replied: “Yes, 1000 percent.”

Jones was asked after the game if the sun was a factor and was clearly unsettled by the questioning.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer“We know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium,” Jones said, then added, “Well, let’s tear down that damn stadium and build a new one. Are you kidding?”

Recovering from a fumble deep in Philly territory, the Cowboys had a chance to take the lead late in the second quarter on Sunday, but after a Lamb incompletion and a Rico Dowdle run ending, they had to settle for a field goal. The score was 7-6 in favor of the Eagles.

From then on, the Eagles outscored the Cowboys 27-0, causing Dallas to fall to 3-6 on the season.

Sunday was going to be a tough contest for the Cowboys with quarterback Dak Prescott out with a hamstring injury, and they couldn’t afford not to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

If the Cowboys had scored instead of making a field goal in the second quarter, the entire perception of the game likely would have changed.

However, the Cowboys have problems that extend well beyond the light of day, and they are perhaps two losses away from missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
