Coroner found dead at Planet Fitness tanning bed on Indy’s south side

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the death of a man found inside a vehicle. Planet Sport on Monday on the city’s south side.

The man was identified by the Marion County Coroner’s office as 39-year-old Derek Sink. The medical examiner had not determined the cause or manner of death as of Tuesday.

Police received a report of a body being found in the tanning bed at Planet Fitness around 8:26 a.m. Monday morning. 8707 Hardegen St..

When police arrived, they located Sink, who was reported missing by her family on Sunday, according to police records. His family last heard from Sink on Friday.

Sink’s family confirmed that Sink entered a tanning bed on Friday and was found dead on Monday. According to WTHR13.

South Indianapolis Planet Fitness hours show the gym closes at 9 p.m. on Friday and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the gym opened at 5 a.m. and Sink was found shortly before 9 a.m.

As of now, police are investigating the incident as a death investigation, not a murder.
