St. Body of St. Clair Co. man found in Anchor Bay

The body of a 78-year-old Clay Township man was recovered from Anchor Bay on Monday, authorities said.

Representatives, St. He said the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to help town police find an elderly man who had been reported missing. His family told authorities he was last seen around 4:30 p.m., investigators reported.

Dive team members arrived at the man’s home on the Anchor Bay River and began searching. Police said they found a broken scaffolding board and evidence that it may have been in the water.

Divers found the man after searching the canal, authorities said. Authorities stated that the person died at the scene.

St. “Drownings are an especially tragic event for the victim, his family, and those who respond,” St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this time.”

Clay Township police continue to investigate, authorities said.

Michigan has seen numerous drownings in its waterways this year.
