The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Airport and Center Roads in Everett.

Police said they still don’t know who was driving the car when this happened. Investigators returned to the area Monday and checked nearby businesses for surveillance video and possible witnesses. Still, state laws restrict their ability to question youths in custody.

Keiffer Meyers said his older brother, Jonathan Anderson, 39, was in the area when a car jumped the curb, crashed into a nearby fence, and fell on five people. According to family members, Anderson and his girlfriend were among the three dead.

“They took a literal angel from our family, so it’s very difficult,” Meyers said. “He was a really good person, loving and also a very strong person.”

Everett police said there was a transient population in the area and the victims were sleeping on grass near the sidewalk when they were shot. Meyers said his family didn’t learn his brother was living on the streets until this happened.

“He was very good at hiding it and not worrying anyone,” Meyers said. “We knew something was going on and we didn’t know what it was, but we had no idea this was it.”

“That’s what sucks about this. He supported me so much, I wish I could support him,” Meyers added. Everett police said the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department tried to pull the suspect car over for a traffic stop before the crash, but the driver took off and was not pursued .

It is stated that there were 3-4 people in the vehicle at the time of the accident and that these people got out and ran away. The three children were taken into custody, but police said state law requires minors to have access to an attorney before being questioned, restricting investigators’ ability to talk to the children, and they were later released to their families.

Meyers said he now wants the parents of the children believed to be involved to pay the costs of burying his brother.

“Your children took my brother, you must pay for their mistakes,” he said. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the names of the other people killed in this incident.
