Here’s why Costco is recalling almost 80,000 pounds of butter

Costco recalled nearly 80,000 pounds of store-brand butter last month because the product’s label was missing a key ingredient: milk.

The wholesaler recalled 79,200 pounds of two types of butter. 46,800 pounds Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 32,400 pounds Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter because it is allergen-free.

Food and Drug Administration Butter in question Both products list cream, “but may be missing the Contains Milk statement.”

FDA classified the action as follows: “Class II” The recall identifies situations where exposure to the product “may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

The products were produced by Continental Dairy Plants Southwest. Affected butter products include:

Consumers who purchased butter under the recall are asked to destroy it or return it to Costco for a refund.
