Vinland Saga Creator Talks About the Role of Women in the Manga (And How the Series Has Changed Over Time)

There is no other anime series like it on the market Legend of Vinland. While the series reformats real-life events of the past, including Vikings and conflicts, for the future of the world, it also explores the emotions of its characters in a way that makes the series an emotional juggernaut. As the series prepares to say goodbye to Thorfinn and those lucky enough to survive the series thus far, creator Makoto Yukimura took the opportunity to dive deeper into their story. In a new interview, the mangaka talks about what women have meant to the series so far and how they came to mean that. Legend of Vinland has changed over the years.

For those who do not dive directly Legend of Vinland Just the first season was one of revenge and bloody wars that created the main character Thorfinn. Wanting to avenge his father’s death, Thorfinn joins the Viking band led by his father’s murderer Askeladd. When Askeladd finally dies, Thorfinn struggles with what to do next in his life now that his revenge has been denied and the Vinland Saga takes a radically different approach. Rather than continuing to focus on strictly hardcore fights, most Vinland Saga The second season reflects Thorfinn trying to find a path free of violence in a world where violence is celebrated.

One of the greatest female characters Legend of Vinland Introduced in the second season of the anime, she was Arnheid, a slave who lost her child in the war and saw her husband also taken into slavery. In a new interview, Yukimura talked about his character and how important his presence is to the overall story: “The reason I chose the character of Arnheid was because I wanted to indicate the direction Thorfinn and Einar would take in their journey to a better world. So what is this new world about? So who is it for?” ?I wanted to be as specific as possible about this and reflect the longing for peace, for a place where there are no wars, where someone unfortunate like Arnheid can live safely; these are the kind of world that I want to create in the future story.

Yukimura stated that he often had difficulty portraying Arnheid but knew he had to have a major role in the series, continuing: “If you read the story and felt that the psychological portrayal of Arnheid was somehow realistic, then I think I achieved my goal here. Arnheid I really had a hard time getting into the spirit of , because I’m not a woman, I’ve never been to war, and I’m not a slave, so I really tried to imagine with every inch of my imagination: What would the life of such a person be like? When there is war, of course everyone suffers. but I also really feel like it’s mostly women and children who suffer the most. absolute write to him It was my job to portray this character to ensure that later in the story Thorfinn’s life becomes against the war and desires his release. He was an indispensable character for his motivation.”

Legend of Vinland: Past and Present

Recently, Yukimura confirms there are only “a few chapters left” until the end of his beloved manga. Although no specific end date has been announced, Makoto talked in the interview about how the series has changed in terms of where it started and where it is now.

“I started writing the story almost 20 years ago. The world was a much more peaceful place then than it is now. Someone told me then that we should think about war when there is no war. And that’s something I’ve kept in my heart, and I’ve been doing it ever since. So I’ve been thinking about war for almost 20 years when there was no war, and now the time has come to a point where unfortunately the world is a sadder place than I could have ever imagined. So now is actually the best time to read my work: What I have always wanted to write about has always been a message of peace and compassion.

As the end of the manga approaches, anime fans are eagerly waiting. Legend of Vinland would make a comeback with the third season. Following the season two finale, Studio MAPPA has yet to confirm whether Thorfinn will return, but there are still plenty of storylines that could help earn viewers at least one more season. We’re sure we’ll see this brutal spectacle return to the small screen in the not-too-distant future.
