Road Ranger, St. Killed in Interstate 95 crash in St. Lucie County

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 67-year-old Road Ranger was killed over the weekend in St. He died in a crash on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County, he said.

FHP said the Road Ranger assisted a disabled Dodge Charger on the northbound left shoulder of I-95, several miles south of Midway Road near Fort Pierce, just after 3:30 Saturday morning.

That’s when the Nissan Murano SUV driven by a 28-year-old man from Royal Palm Beach veered off the road, striking the left shoulder and striking both the Road Ranger and Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The 67-year-old Road Ranger from Fort Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not disclosed.

There were a total of five people inside the Murano, according to FHP. Four of the patients with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to a local hospital.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” FHP said in a crash report.

Road Rangers are employed by the Florida Department of Transportation and provide assistance to drivers in need on highways. These services include changing flat tires, jump-starting vehicles, helping stranded drivers contact emergency responders, and clearing disabled vehicles and roadway debris.
