Old Lockport restaurant goes up in flames

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The site of a former Lockport tavern went up in flames late Monday night, according to authorities.

Crews responded to 167 Van Buren Street, formerly the home of Pleasant Valley Tavern, just after 11:15 p.m. Monday.

When the teams arrived, the flames came from the door on the east side of the first floor and spread to the second floor. Crews fought the fire for approximately 3 hours and remained at the scene for more than 4 hours.

The bar had been closed for several years. Investigators believed the building was inhabited by squatters because numerous propane tanks and bedding materials were found inside. No one was injured because no one was inside at the time of the fire. Damage was estimated at $115,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
