Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has given his verdict on whether David Coote should be suspended after criticizing Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

A controversial video on Monday Beard leaked to the internet. During this clip, the Premier League official was asked what he thought of a particular Liverpool performance. To which he replied: “Liverpool was a shitty place”.

Coote then smashed the old one Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains why he’s an “absolute scumbag”. He added: “C**t, absolute c**t. As well as lashing out at me when I was refereeing against Burnley at lock, he also accused me of lying and then lashed out at me.

“I’m not interested in talking to someone as a fucking arrogant person. I try my best not to talk to him… oh my god, German cock. Fuck me.”

Coote has had his share of run-ins with Liverpool in recent years. He was responsible for their 2-0 win against Aston Villa at the weekend and controversially decided not to penalize Leon Bailey for an apparent foul on Mo Salah in the lead-up to Darwin Nunez’s goal.

He was also on VAR duty at the Merseyside derby in October 2020. During this match, he allowed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to remain on the field after seeing the defender injure his anterior cruciate ligament in a tackle on Virgil van Dijk.

Following the emergence of this video, PGMOL suspended Coote, who initially denied any wrongdoing, saying ‘the viral video in which he appears is not real’.

But, Coote later ‘admitted that the viral video he was in was real’, but ‘it is believed that he does not remember the content of the discussion recorded several years ago.’

Hackett gives his thoughts on the Coote situation In his interview with Football Insider.

After watching the video, Hackett’s outspoken stance was that PGMOL had “very little choice” but to suspend Coote.

“Seeing this video, PGMOL had no choice but to suspend and investigate this matter,” Hackett said in an interview with Football Insider.

“Professional Referees are members of UNITE and there is no doubt that the referee will be supported by them at this difficult time for him.

“Having had to suspend two referees while I was boss of PGMOL, I can say that the investigation process was extremely thorough and the result was the reinstatement of both referees.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy thinks Coote is “done” because there is “no coming back from this”.

“As a player, I would feel more hurt and angry when I questioned whether his intentions were compromised by his underestimation of the manager.

“Are we therefore deprived of fair governance? This is a heavy burden to carry. “I believe many players will share my anger as they ponder such thoughts.”

Murphy added: “He will not referee again. It’s over for him. There’s no coming back from this. “He’s done.”
