Comparison between AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D

It’s been a week since AMD announced its highly anticipated feature Ryzen 7 9800X3Dand it’s fair to say that almost everyone is excited about what this new processor offers. It was difficult to predict where the 9800X3D would fare based on the current situation. 7800X3DWhile we expected a performance increase of around 10% on average, we didn’t expect to see gaming gains exceed 20%, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Now the question is: how does the 9800X3D compare to the 7800X3D across a wide range of games?

To find out, we test them head-to-head on 45 titles and structure this review slightly differently. Instead of showing only the individual results of a dozen or so games and summarizing the rest, we will present the results of five games at a time. This approach allows you to see fps data for each game tested.

As usual, all CPU gaming benchmarks will be run at 1080p. GeForce RTX 4090. If you are a PC enthusiast but not familiar with Why do reviewers test it this way? Please check out our explainer on this topic. We’re going over it here CPU benchmarking basics and why we test the way we do.

What Did We Learn?

So there you are. As we saw in our first day review, 9800X3D It can be up to 21% faster than 7800X3DThis is an incredible performance increase considering the values we previously found in the non-3D V-Cache Zen 4 and Zen 5 tests. Depending on game samples and how they are tested, the average performance increase can range from 5% to 15%.

The 11% margin observed in our initial review may be a more accurate reflection of the typical performance difference between these two CPUs. As games continue to require more CPU power, we expect margins of at least 11% to become standard within a year or two.

In terms of value, it will take time for the 9800X3D to reach what the 7800X3D offers. $340 price point. But for those looking for the best possible gaming experience, the 9800X3D $480 MSRP is a great choice.

We plan to run it later Intel Core i9-14900K And Core Ultra 9 285K We’re going through the same 45-game benchmark and hope to have one of these matchups available for you in the coming weeks.
