We did not try to stop Gachagua from going to church – DCI

DCI boss Amin Mohamed

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied reports that detectives tried to stop former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua from attending church on Sunday.

According to DCI boss Amin Mohamed, a claim in a local daily that the detective was driving an unmarked Subaru vehicle was false.

The report was published on Monday.

The DCI boss emphasized that the Directorate operates within the framework of the law and does not interfere with the activities of other institutions.

“We would like to clarify that these allegations are completely false and appear to be intended to misrepresent DCI’s actions and intentions.

“DCI operates within the parameters set by the rule of law and constantly reaffirms its determination to refrain from interfering with the freedoms of individuals and institutions,” Amin said in a statement on Tuesday.

The DCI also added that the reporter’s claim that they could not get a comment from the DCI was not true.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations responded quickly, reaffirming the DCI’s commitment to respecting the autonomy of religious institutions, and the author acknowledged the receipt of this response.”

The investigating agency insisted that the newspaper must thoroughly verify facts, present balanced perspectives and carefully cover sensitive issues to maintain its commitment to truth and justice in journalism.

“This is particularly important when information affects the reputation of individuals and the integrity of institutions.”

On Sunday, the former DP and his allies attended a church service at the Priestly Fellowship Church in Nairobi’s West Kahawa.
