Snorkeler missing off Oahu’s North Shore taken to hospital

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Large waves separated a group of snorkelers off Oahu’s North Shore Monday afternoon; One person was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., first responders with HFD, Ocean Safety and EMS responded to the Three Tables surf spot after receiving a call of three snorkelers in distress.

Two of them, a man and a woman, were found shortly after lifeguards, paramedics and firefighters arrived.

Jet ski and air search teams discovered the third snorkeler, a 29-year-old, about an hour later.

First responders gave him CPR and advanced life support before transporting him to the emergency room.

Two other snorkelers suffered injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Ocean Safety said signs “strong current”, “no swimming” and “lifeguard off duty” were posted on the beach.

During the rescue efforts, the surf was said to be 6-10 feet and rising.
