Original Avatar stars tease season 2 as Netflix production begins | TV and Radio | Showbiz and TV

In 2005, Jennie Kwan and James Sie pursued what they believed would be another voice-over job for an animated Nickelodeon show; both expected to appear in only one episode.

Nearly 20 years later, the actors are still beloved by fans around the world as Kyoshi warrior Suki and the Cabbage Merchant, both pivotal parts of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender universe.

with its 2nd season netflixThe live-action adaptation is believed to be in the works and a season 3 has also been confirmed. Express caught up with the stars at MCM Comic Con to find out where their ATLA journey goes next.

James, who reprises his role in the live-action, expressed his hopes for season 2: “I’d like to see more cabbage.”

Unfortunately, fans may never hear his iconic words again. The actor admitted: “I don’t know if I’ll come back.”

As young Suki was recast, Maria Zhang took over, Jennie quipped: “You never know the cameo…”

The 51-year-old also gave Maria the ultimate seal of approval: “Maria is amazing. “I think it’s one of the most delicious things about the show.”

Speaking about the iconic animation, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in the coming months, Jennie said: “I was only supposed to be there for one episode but thanks to the creators and the fans I kept coming back. I feel really lucky to be a part of the show. People ask me all the time: ‘Suki Do you think you look like ?’ “I hope so, he’s a very honest character. I hope I can be a little bit similar.”

Originally, the role of the cabbage merchant was a one-off background character that James voiced alongside two other characters in the same episode.

No one expected fans to become so deeply invested in this iconic yet still unsung character.

James commented on this shocking return: “When I heard Nickelodeon wanted me back for Avatar, I said; ‘Oh my God, will I be able to bend this time? ‘Will I be able to become a member of the royal family?’ No, no, remember that cabbage man… This is so unexpected. “He’s a character that somehow everyone likes, and you can’t really plan for that.”

The Cabbage Merchant has since had honorary roles in The Legend of Korra and ATLA comics, and even has his own extensive line of merchandise.

It should come as no surprise that fans have been asking James to do real productions, and the actor has now inadvertently taken method acting to a whole new level by selling his own cabbages.
