Gas leak closed main road and dozens of businesses in Loveland for hours

LOVELAND, Ohio — A major road in Loveland has reopened after a gas leak closed the area for several hours.

The leak was reported around 10 a.m. Monday morning while the Loveland Symmes Fire Department was working. A post was made on the Facebook page to avoid the area of Loveland Madeira Road at East Kemper Road.

The fire department later said all businesses south of Cottonwood Drive on Loveland Madeira Road to I-275 were closed until further notice.

“The Loveland Madeira Street corridor will be closed for an extended period due to a gas leak,” the fire department said.

The fire department said Duke Energy arrived on site to fix the leak. Duke said one of his contractors hit a gas line. The company cut off gas in the area and said there was no danger to the public.

In an update posted around 8:30 p.m. Monday, the city said Loveland Madeira Road at East Kemper Road has reopened. The city previously said East Kemper Road would remain closed from Loveland Madeira Road to the railroad tracks until Wednesday, Nov. 13.
