Former Australia skipper tips Indian youths to shine Down Under

Jurel made his Test debut against England in Rajkot earlier this year and claimed a catch and stunner while deputizing for Pant while also contributing 46 runs with the bat after coming on at No. 8 during the comprehensive India victory.

An innings of 90 in the Test in Ranchi followed, and Jurel averaged an impressive 63.33 in his three Tests against England earlier this year.

World Test Championship Rankings

Paine knows Jurel faces a step up in classification if he is selected to play in the crucial ICC World Test Championship match against Australia, but feels he is up to the challenge and will suit the fast-paced conditions expected in Perth.

Paine said of Jurel: “He’s 23 and has played three Test matches, but to be honest he had better class than all his teammates and handled the pace and jumped really well, which might be unusual for an Indian player.” said Paine.

“Look out for him this summer. I think he will impress a lot of Australian fans.

“He looks like he has the game to play Test cricket, although he will take another step up against the big three (Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood).”
