Garage Closing – Eugene Weekly

For nearly 30 years, the pulse of life in Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood has been beating.

Sam Bond’s Garage, a Whit’s precursor since it opened in 1995, has weathered the pandemic by hosting comedy, Drag Takeover shows, weekly Irish and bluegrass concerts, weekly bingo, neighborhood gatherings, art exhibits and lots of music. There is rock, various styles of punk, Americana and pop music. Muse Collective, a burlesque, drag, draglesque, comedy and music troupe, took up residence here with their beautiful and extraordinary shows.

The venue has also long been known for locally sourced food, from chewy bagels to vegan chocolate chip cookies to cocktails and beer. Monument to long-time Whit legend Lefty Kelleher He stands outside the corner of Fourth and Blair occupied by Sam Bond.

Unfortunately, Sam Bond’s announced on Instagram on November 11 that they would be closing their doors after December 31 and that Sam Bond’s was up for sale.

Comment on Sam Bond’s ownership declined Eugene Weekly, and a longtime employee declined to comment, saying it was a sensitive issue.

The following is a statement shared on social media regarding the closure and impending sale of the iconic building at 4th Avenue and Blair.

“In 1995, 3 friends opened a small taproom in a former auto repair shop at 4th Avenue and Blair Street, offering food, drinks, live music, and most importantly, a hub for our community. For many of us, Sam Bond’s Garage has become our living room away from home. Our check-in point.

But like everything in life, things change.

This is to let everyone know that Sam Bond’s Garage is up for sale and as of now we will not be open for showings or meals after December 31st.

Thinking about the next month, talking, remembering old days, etc. I will, but for now I wanted to keep this article relatively short and before news on the subject starts to spread. We will chat more about this.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our family over the last 30 years (almost lol), we love you all and wish everyone the best in the future. Even though it feels awful right now, we also know how lucky we are to have had this special space for so long.”
