Rain helps crews fighting the 100-acre Callahan Fire in south Reno, progress stalled

Firefighters will spend the night and tomorrow cleaning up the Callahan Fire, according to Truckee Meadows Fire.

A main residence and several additional buildings were lost in the fire.

A fast-moving brush fire in South Reno forced the evacuation of some nearby residents and led to the evacuation of Mt. Rose Highway closed.

Mt. The Rose Highway is currently closed to all traffic in both directions between Wedge Parkway and Douglas Fir Drive.

Weather

Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue says the fire was wind-driven and moving at a high rate of speed. Strong winds are expected for the rest of the day, with sustained winds gusting to 23 mph in Reno, with tail gusts approaching 40 mph.

Governor Joe Lombardo said on social media shortly after the fire broke out: “My office and Nevada Emergency Management are fully engaged in assessing and combating the ongoing wildfire near Callahan Ranch. Please pay attention to local authorities and follow evacuation advisories.”
