Former Grizzlies Player Comments on Bronny James After Lakers’ G League Move

When Bronny James was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft out of USC, he wasn’t expected to be a rotation player for the Los Angeles Lakers early in his career. James made his official debut for the South Bay Lakers (LA’s G League affiliate) over the weekend, and the national media is buzzing about the decision for the young guard.

On FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, former Memphis Grizzlies player Chandler Parsons shared his thoughts on James’ situation, letting him know that it’s more positive than the negativity others have portrayed.

“This is a project, regardless of his last name or his father’s name,” Parsons said. β€œHe needs to master his role in the G League and where he can find value on the Los Angeles Lakers team this season.”

In his first game last weekend, James finished the game with six points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Going back to Parsons’ point in the video, James is not expected to be a player who will score big goals in the G League.

James played just 16 total minutes in six games with the Lakers, five of which came against the Grizzlies, where he scored his third and fourth career points.

With the Lakers actively fighting for a playoff spot in the busy Western Conference, James will need to take advantage of opportunities in the G League and prepare himself for when he is needed.
