MSNBC’s Al Sharpton on Monday lashed out at “latte liberals” who he claimed “speak for people they don’t speak to” and accused some Democrats of wanting to “lead people” they don’t like.

“The whole purpose of the civil rights movement and the movement right now is not to overthrow the system and make things work equally for everyone, it’s to fix the system, not to turn everything upside down and turn everything into some undefined utopia. These are latte liberals. Sharpton said, “Speaking for people they don’t speak to “There are people running around trying to lead people they don’t like, trying to represent things that were never part of what we said,” he said.

The MSNBC host was discussing a New York Times column written by Maureen Dowd titled “Democrats and the State of Mistaken Identity Politics.”

“Those of us who were and still are at the forefront of police reform have never called for defunding the police,” he continued.

Dowd wrote in his column that some members of the Democratic Party are finally realizing that “wokeness is broken.”

“Democrats thought people would vote for Kamala Harris even if they didn’t like her to get rid of Trump. But more people voted for Trump because they liked the Democratic Party even though most people didn’t like her,” he wrote.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough echoed those views during Monday’s show, arguing that police canceling messages from the far left is counterproductive.
