Need a first baseman this winter? Your team may be lucky. Many players are available at this position in free agency, and many are likely to find a new home for 2025 and beyond.

MLB free agency rumors are already on the rise, and it won’t be long before the top dominoes fall off the board. Here are the power rankings of this winter’s top five goaltenders.

Josh Bell has been a consistent first baseman throughout his career. He’s bounced around a lot lately, but he’s added offensive value wherever he’s gone. Although he has yet to top his breakthrough campaign by hitting .277/.367/.569 with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs in 2019, he is still hitting respectable numbers like .249/.319/.405 in 2024. up from a year ago with 19 homers and 71 drives, or 22 homers and 74 RBIs.

Bell is unlikely to get a long-term deal and could likely end up on the cheaper side of current first basemen. A transitioning Bell will be an attractive option for teams looking to save a few bucks, and it will be interesting to see who signs him this winter. From a production standpoint, he’s still 32 years old, so he should have a lot left in his bat.

In every way Ty France is a out of season He slashed just .234/.305/.365 in 2024; That’s well below his career average, but there’s room for optimism at this point. His career mark is .263/.337/.407, even after the down year, and that’s an above-average batting average in today’s game. France’s problem, along with their lack of sluggers, is their inability to be average defenders.

In 2024, France posted a minus-12 Above Average grade among MLB’s bottom 1 percent. This is ultimately where teams can stand in their way, but among the best players at first base, his ability to bat for average is better than most. There’s nowhere to go but up defensively, and his OOA of minus-1 in 2023 and minus-4 in 2022 is still bad, but not as terrible as it was in 2024. He probably won’t repeat such a terrible showing, and even with any improvement defensively he’s still an accomplished player.

After a poor season in 2024, seven-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt could join the team on a team-friendly deal. Goldschmidt is slashing .245/.302/.414 this season. Goldschmidt, a four-time Gold Glove winner, had his worst year offensively in 2024, but the problem is that his worst season is still better than most players. 100 wRC+ It was exactly league average this year.

If Goldschmidt is resurgent in 2025, you’ll likely get steals as long as the contract lasts. He has proven he can still hit 20 long balls, but his power figures have decreased over the last two seasons. His veteran leadership will bring a lot to the table, and as noted, any increase in power and batting average could still be an upgrade for any team in need of first base.

Christian Walker is poised to receive a lucrative deal in free agency after slashing .250/.332/.481 with 95 homers and 281 RBI over the past three seasons. He also won the Gold Glove the last three seasons in a row, so offensive side aside, you still get the high ground at least defensively. Combined with his elite defensive skills, Walker is one of the best hitters in the league; So there’s reason to believe he’ll be at the top of a team’s wish list if they need help at 1B.

Polar Bear Pete Alonso has been the strongest first baseman in the league since hitting 53 home runs in his rookie season in 2019. He has struck out at least 34 times in every year except the 2020 short season and has surpassed the 115-RBI plateau three times in six seasons.

Pete Alonso was always going to test the waters in free agency after hiring Scott Boras as his agent. I believe mets They’re still the favorite to bring him back, especially after drafting the Cubs, who have nowhere to field Cody Bellinger, Michael Busch, and Seiya Suzuki at DH. It will be interesting to see where he ends up next year if the Mets pass for some reason. He still has plenty of pop in his bat.
