Deputies say the crash that injured the couple on Aldine Bender Road in northern Harris County was caused by a domestic disturbance

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man and a woman were injured in a crash in northern Harris County early Monday morning. Deputies believe the crash was intentional and part of a domestic violence incident between the couple.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Aldine Bender Road.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the incident started as a fight between the couple. The man reportedly left the house and the woman chased after him.

HCSO said the woman driving a black truck hit the man driving a white sedan, causing the sedan to hit the awning and go off the roadway.

Both the man and the woman were taken to hospital. The man was injured but is expected to survive, while the woman was in critical condition and underwent surgery, according to HCSO.

Investigators noted bullet holes in the side of the truck, but it is unclear whether they were related to a domestic disturbance.

The couple has a daughter, but according to deputies, the girl was home at the time of the crash and was not injured.

HCSO said the woman could be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but the investigation into exactly what happened is ongoing.

“If you and your spouse don’t get along, that’s one thing… We have a child who is going through this. We have a child who has to endure this type of violence on a regular basis, which I can only imagine because you often don’t get it. “Get to that point of violence the first time you go,” Capt. Anthony McConnell said. “There is help out there. There are consultants. There is also divorce if you have to. But there are a lot of people out there willing to help you.”
