Detroit Lions depth chart: How will they replace Taylor Decker at left?

HOUSTON, TEXAS — The Detroit Lions (7-1) snapped their six-game winning streak against the Texans (6-3) in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football in Houston.

We’ll take a look at the projected depth chart for this weekend’s prime time matchup. The Lions will not be starting left tackle Taylor Decker. New pass rusher Za’Darius Smith is questionable after arriving at the deadline.

quarterback

1.Jared Goff

2. Hendon Whore

Jared Goff leads the league in completion percentage and has no interceptions since Week 3. Goff, Amon-Ra St. He hit Brown over 30 targets and will look to keep the good times rolling against the Texans.

running back

1A. David Montgomery

1B. Jahmyr Gibbs

3.Craig Reynolds

4. Sione Vaki

Sione Vaki returned to practice after missing last week’s win against the Green Bay Packers. He hasn’t done much offensively this season. But he’s already proven to be a threat on special teams.

As for the one-two punch from the backfield, expect the same from David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Montgomery and Gibbs powered the Lions through the rain last week, and the Lions continued to make big play after big play.

wide receiver

Starters: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick

Subs: Allen Robinson, Kalif Raymond

Jameson Williams is back in the lineup after missing the last two games. The Lions plan to return him to the field, with the big receiver adding another flavor to Detroit’s potent offense. St. Brown kept a clean sheet in 30 consecutive goals, scoring in six straight games, one outside the team record.

One of the changes in this room is the absence of Isaiah Williams. The Lions released the undrafted rookie on Thursday. He has since joined the Cincinnati Bengals.

tight end

1.Sam La Porta

2. Brock Wright

3.Shane Zylstra

Shane Zylstra was left out of the practice squad after playing the last three games, and the Lions placed him on the 53-man roster ahead of their game against the Texans. Dan Campbell He said that it continues to improve in practically every fieldand they felt they had to mobilize it. Now it’s back on the list.

offensive line

Beginners: LT Penei Sewell, LG Graham Glasgow, C Frank Ragnow, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Dan Skipper

Backups: OG Kayode Awosika, OL Michael Niese, OT/OG Colby Sorsdal, OT Giovanni Manu, OG Christian Mahogany, OL

Outside: Taylor Decker

Taylor Decker won’t play this weekend, and it’s a surprising blow to the team’s offensive line. It’s possible that Penei Sewell will slide back at left tackle, as he did in previous years when Decker was forced out of the game. Sewell held the position as a rookie, even taking more than 100 snaps last season.

Dan Skipper or Colby Sorsdal could be the top two options to fill the void at tackle. Skipper sees snaps every game as the team’s extra blocker in these loaded lineups. Sorsdal played just one game, with five snaps on special teams. Despite Will Anderson Jr.’s absence from Sunday Night Football, it’s unlikely Giovanni Manu will be ready for that kind of action. Jamarco Jones was removed from the practice squad.

defensive line

DL Starters: Alim McNeill, Levi Onwuzrike, DJ Reader, Josh Paschal

Backups: James Houston, Pat O’Connor, Mekhi Wingo, Al-Quadin Muhammad

Outside: Brodric Martin

Suspicious: Za’Darius Smith

Will Za’Darius Smith make his team debut despite only training once this week? That’s the question, but it’s worth noting that the Lions left that door open and listed the veteran pass rusher as doubtful after the trade deadline. Smith has said he wants to play, but that’s up to the team to decide. The Lions have said they want to make sure the veteran is fresh off the infield, which makes sense since he missed his previously planned bye week (while he was with the Cleveland Browns).

Josh Paschal and Mekhi Wingo are back on the field and this is very good news for the defensive line. Paschal had missed the last two games because he was being treated for a non-cancerous mass on his shoulder. The edge rusher and former second-round draft pick fills a massive hole on this line with or without Smith.

Update: NFL Network reported that Smith is not expected to make his debut in Houston.

defender

1. Alex Anzalone (WILL), Jack Campbell (MIKE)

2. Trevor Nowaske, Ben Niemann

Backups/special teams: Abraham Beauplan, Ezekiel Turner

Outside: Malcolm Rodriguez, Jalen Reeves-Maybin

Malcolm Rodriguez will miss his second straight game with an ankle injury. Jalen Reeves-Maybin was left out of the squad due to a neck problem. Both were vital pieces on special teams, while Rodriguez took a regular role on defense.

Alex Anzalone and Jack Campbell will continue to lead the Lions at linebacker. But Trevor Nowaske and Ben Niemann could be in line for much more in Houston.

Secondary

Corner starting players: Carlton Davis III, Terrion Arnold, Amik Robertson (nest)

Security starters: Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph

Backups: S Brandon Joseph, S Loren Strickland, CB Kindle Vildor, CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB Khalil Dorsey

Outside: S Ifatu Melifonwu, CB Emmanuel Moseley

This group will continue to suppress the events. Ennis Rakestraw saw some defensive snaps last week in relief of Amik Robertson. Brian Branch was ejected and Brandon Joseph was the reliever. Brandon Joseph has received praise from the team’s defensive staff and should be considered the third safety until Iffeatu Melifonu is ready to return.

Melifonwu and Emmanuel Moseley each had a 21-day return to training window opened on Wednesday.
