BPD reports officer-involved shooting as possible “hostage or violent situation”

Boise Police have released more information about a hostage situation.

Police said a third party reported behavior and a possible hostage situation Sunday afternoon at a home in the 1300 block of N. Liberty Street. According to the information obtained, it was stated that the suspect had a knife in his hand and threatened an adult man in the house. The teams started working to contact the suspect. Police said they attempted to negotiate with the suspect and additional resources were called to the scene, including the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Operations Unit.

Boise Police said around 5:05 p.m., the victim emerged from the home safely and as officers went inside to assist the victim, the suspect emerged with a knife.

A police officer shot the suspect. Boise Police said officers immediately provided life-saving aid and the suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Ada County Coroner will identify the man pending notification to immediate family. The injured person suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

No Boise Police officers were physically injured and the officer involved will be placed on administrative leave, as is policy.
