24 more monkeys found after 43 escapes from South Carolina research facility – NBC New York

It is believed that there are 24 more monkeys among them 43 people escaped from a research facility in South Carolina Police said Sunday that recoveries had been found last week and were keeping an eye on a “large group” nearby. NBC News reported.

Sunday’s arrest comes a day after the incident Rescue of one of the rhesus macaques He escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center in Yemassee, South Carolina.

The Yemassee Police Department said in its latest statement that veterinarians examined 25 people and concluded they were unharmed.

“Initial reports from the veterinary team indicate that all recovered animals are in good health,” the ministry said.

At least some of the remaining 18 fugitives are believed to be in the fence line around the facility, police said. Police said the primates in this group “spent the night in the trees.”

Police cited Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard as confirming the rescue of 24 people on Sunday.

“The Alpha Genesis team is continuing their efforts and will continue until all animals are safely rescued,” police said.

Authorities appealed to residents near the facility to keep windows and doors safe as the search for the remaining primates continues.

Police also asked the public to avoid using drones in the area and to stay away from the area. It was stated that anyone who sees a running monkey should call 911.

“We thank the public for their cooperation,” the police said.

The lab’s own team is continuing its efforts to rescue the remaining primates and will continue to do so until they are captured, police said.

On Friday, Westergaard blamed “human error” for Wednesday’s overnight escape, saying a keeper failed to lock two doors to a new enclosure during feeding and cleaning.

Police said they used thermal imaging to locate the primates.

Alpha Genesis provides “nonhuman primate products and bioresearch services,” according to its website. A macaque monkey was used to aid research into treatments for brain disease disorders under a contract with a pharmaceutical company. Westergaard said.

The police announced that the escapees were very young women, weighing only 6 to 7 kilos, who had not yet been used in research.

Yemassee is about 60 miles west of Charleston.
