Spokane police took a man into custody Sunday morning following reports of a fatal stabbing downtown, according to a news release from the Spokane Police Department.

Police responded to the 100 block of West Third Street around 11 a.m. Sunday, where officers detained a man shortly after arriving at the scene and administered first aid to the reportedly stabbed victim, the statement said.

Despite the intervention of police and medical personnel, the injured lost their lives.

The relationship between the suspect and the victim was not immediately known.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the victim.
