Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (WFSB) — A 41-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle on State Street in New Haven early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 2:18 a.m. when New Haven Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of ​​1455 State Street after receiving a report of a pedestrian struck.

Upon arrival, first responders located the victim, identified as Luis Timbila, in the roadway.

Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, Timbila succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His relatives were informed.

Police said the vehicle involved in the accident did not remain at the scene.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a black Honda Civic with front-end damage, traveling north on State Street toward Hamden, followed by a red Honda Civic.

The New Haven Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the incident.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to come forward.
