Prisoner escaped from HMP Leyhill

Police appealed for help to find a prisoner who escaped from an open prison on Saturday.

Steven Stewart, 39, is serving a sentence for wounding with intent at HMP Leyhill, near Wotton-under-Edge in South Gloucestershire.

Avon and Somerset Police said the man was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a dark jumper and running tracksuits with white trainers and was linked to Eastbourne & Brighton.

A spokesman said anyone who sees him should call 999 immediately, adding: “Please do not approach him.”

Stewart is described as white, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and of medium build. He has short black hair, has a tattoo of names on his left arm and “England” on his right.

He also has tattoos on his hands.
