Odell Beckham Jr. facing the Rams again

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He hasn’t been able to do much in Miami this season, making just three catches for 15 yards. His next opportunity came Monday night in his first game against the Rams at SoFi Stadium, as he suffered an ACL tear during Super Bowl LVI (or, more accurately, when his knee finally gave way with a previously torn ACL).

With Tyreek Hill questionable due to an ankle injury, Beckham could get more than 17 percent of total playing time in four games (45 total snaps) in 2024.

And he may have a chance to repeat his four-catch, 97-yard, one-touchdown showing against the Rams last year as a member of the Ravens.

On Saturday, Rams coach Sean McVay said all the right things about Beckham based on his brief stint with the Rams.

“He’s a very special player and very talented,” McVay told reporters. “I think what I respect more than anything is how impressive of a person he is and the things he’s been able to overcome, whether it’s injury issues or not. You’re talking about a talented, really smart, cerebral receiver who can do a lot of different things. We’ve been able to do the things we’ve done in the short amount of time he’s been here.” It was effective.

“I think that’s what’s important about people, I feel that way about both Jalen (Ramsey) and Odell, are you making an impact? What kind of relationships do you build and what impact do you leave afterwards? Both of these men definitely left a huge impact on me and this place. Jalen was here from 2019 until a couple of years ago, and even Odell was only here a few months, but presence, charisma, and the ability to really have a good feel for what was needed in terms of the dynamics of the room. He’s as fun and knowledgeable as anyone I’ve ever been around. It was truly a pleasure to coach and I still keep in touch with those two guys. They mean a lot to me.”

Of course, they didn’t mean enough for the Rams to keep them. Ramsey was traded and Beckham did not re-sign – not in 2023 or 2024. And while Beckham certainly has plenty of reasons to show he can still do it, he’s heading back to where he has the potential to be the Super Bowl. Winning MVP against a Rams team that didn’t want him back should give him extra motivation.

All he needs is enough luck to do it.
