Mangaluru: A person was found dead in police custody at Brahmavar Police Station in Udupi district in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to Udupi District Police Superintendent Dr Arun K, on ​​Saturday evening, the Brahmavara police received a complaint against a person who was allegedly harassing a woman and children in Cherkady.

Police teams arrived at the scene, detained the person and took him to the police station. The complainant came to the police station and filed a criminal complaint, claiming that the person entered their home and harassed her.

The man, later identified as Biju Mohan, was kept in custody overnight.

At around 3:45 a.m., the guard noticed the man collapsed on the ground and leaning his head against the wall. The guard immediately notified the deputy inspector and called an ambulance. The man was taken to Brahmavara Community Health Center and was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The person has been identified as Biju Mohan (45), a native of Kollam in Kerala, who works as a porter. We informed his family. Since this is a custodial death, CID will conduct an investigation,” the SP said.

Necessary action will be initiated upon the complaint of family members.
