A teenager has died following a horrific hit-and-run incident in Co Kildare.

The fatal incident happened on the R403 at Blackwood, near Robertstown, at around 12.30am in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai said the vehicle involved in the crash failed to remain at the scene.

The body of the young man, who was seriously injured due to the impact, was taken to the morgue of Naas State Hospital.

Cops have confirmed the R403 at Blackwood is currently closed between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross.

A forensic examination of the scene will be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local referrals are available and investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal hit and run road traffic accident in Robertstown, County, in the early hours of Sunday 10 November 2024. Kildare.

“The collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred at around 12.30pm on the R403 at Blackwood, near Robertstown, County Kildare.

“The vehicle involved in the collision could not remain at the scene.

“As a result of the collision, a male pedestrian (16 years old) was fatally injured.

His body was taken from the scene and taken to the morgue of Naas General Hospital.

“The R403 at Blackwood is currently closed (between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross), with Garda Forensic Collision Investigators awaiting forensic examination of the scene. Local diversions exist.”

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or road users with CCTV footage to contact them.

They can contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The Garda spokesman added: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Any road users who were traveling near Blackwood and Robertstown at the time of the collision and have dashcam footage (including dashcam) are asked to contact Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
