Public concert and art exhibition in memory of Missing and Murdered Native Relatives

On Saturday, November 9, community members came together at the No More MMIWR Concert and Art Exhibition to honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMWIR) through art and music.

“You know, I never thought this would happen to us until it did. And that’s something that never leaves my mind. You know, I go to college and it’s hard to have him in my mind and look at the board, and I work in the middle of the night and he’s on my mind all night,” my nephew said. Peter MartinIzzy Proulx.

The concert and art exhibition featured musical artists such as Keith Secola Band, Micheal LaughingFox Charette, Oshkii Giizhik Singers, Jaron Andrews, Giwose Inini, Mitch McVicker Music and Remedy Drive. The art exhibition gave local artists space to display their artwork; As well as giving a voice to MMIWR families, community partners and organizations.

Proceeds from the event go towards creating a local “MMIWR mutual aid fund” in the Twin Ports and beyond. The funding will help support MMIWR families, local search initiatives, MMIWR advocacy and awareness, and local community-led events.
