Restored stone fountain returns to Oswestry 18 months after it was destroyed in a serious accident

Cross Fountain at Oswestry, demolished in May 2023 when a van hit him.

Gifted to the city in 1862, the fountain was part of a national philanthropic movement aimed at establishing public drinking water fountains when the connection between clean drinking water and public health was established.

The Italianate-style fountain served the city center for 20 years before being moved to Caste Bank, but was restored by local conservation company CBS Ltd in 2006 and moved back to its original home.

In May 2023, the fountain overturned after being hit by a minibus, injuring three people, one of them seriously.
