PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A man is in police custody after shooting and killing a woman and then escaping from the hospital under police guard, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

on Saturday. At approximately 2:00 a.m. and 2:06 a.m., Portland Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 00 block of Northeast 146th Street. Police teams arriving at the scene found the body of a woman.

It was learned that the injured people who were taken to the hospital were not life-threatening.

Michael J. English, 33, of Portland, was being treated at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital. At around 9:45 a.m., he was allowed to change clothes in private, but he took advantage of the situation and fled the room.

PPB immediately launched a search and found him before 11:00 am.

English is charged with First Degree Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm.
