The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reported an incident that occurred Saturday at Clarksville Caverns in New Scotland Township and involved a man who was declared missing in Dutchess County this week.

Sheriff Craig Apple said around 10:18 a.m. Saturday his office received a report of a pickup truck parked at the entrance to Clarksville Caverns behind Son’s Deli.

Apple said the truck’s owner, John Higgins, was reported missing Thursday in Dutchess County after deputies investigated.

Higgins was found in an area of ​​the cave by the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, NYS Rangers and the National Cave Rescue Commission around 2 p.m. Saturday, Apple said.

Police said witnesses told authorities Higgins entered the trail around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities said there were no reports of injuries while Higgins was in the cave.

He was given a bench warrant for trespassing and is scheduled to appear in New Scotland Town Court on Nov. 21.
